INSTRUMENT FLIGHT® / PSO-Match™ 2

with Koenig & Bauer QualiTronic/ErgoTronic 2 control console

The Koenig & Bauer measuring systems with inline measurement/control are grouped under the generic term "QualiTronic". This system measures directly in the press and provides fully automatic control of the selected parameters on the run according to defined targets.

The Koenig & Bauer measuring systems with online measurement/control are grouped under the generic term "ErgoTronic and ColorDrive". After measuring outside the press, the system makes a control suggestion that the printer can accept by pressing a button. Adjustments of the parameters are made directly via online connection to the control console.

With the basic equipment of QualiTronic / ErgoTronic, color control is only done in accordance with the individual solid ink densities of each ink. The limits of conventional density control are described here: https://www.systembrunner.com/basics-knowledge/instrument-flight-technology

However, thanks to the partnership with System Brunner, new and more enhanced color control solutions are optionally available to the user, combined with the control console 2. These color control solutions lead to a higher color automation in print production with optimal visual appearance and match of international Standards like GRACoL-G7, ISO-PSO or any preset definition.

In combination with the Koenig & Bauer control console 2, the INSTRUMENT FLIGHT / PSO-Match software has been completely redesigned and functionally expanded. It is operated from a separate touchscreen monitor, which makes the application even more user-friendly.

INSTRUMENT FLIGHT®

with QualiTronic / ErgoTronic 2 control console

INSTRUMENT FLIGHT® is the top solution for color control according to international standards like GRACoL-G7®, ISO/PSO or any standard definition. It also includes all the functionalities of the PSO-Match™ software product, but supports the user with further useful features and gives the operator the highest amount of comfort, information and flexibility for a large product range.

INSTRUMENT FLIGHT® is based on the proven System Brunner multidimensional color/gray balance control strategy which with its indirect image control assures optimal color stability/consistency using defined print standards. More than 30 print influencing variables defined in the standard including gray balance and L*a*b* color loci are taken into account and weighted in every ink key. The influences of materials are compensated for which achieves optimal visual match with the standardized proof. The process diagnosis informs in real time how good the conformity to the defined print standard is, thus supporting the printer in process optimization.

Prerequisites:
• QualiTronic 2 control console for Inline ink density measurement and control
and/or
• External spectral reference scan device (ErgoTronic 2 or Color Drive)

The most important features and functions:

  • Selection of the stored print standard (ISO/PSO, Globalstandard®, G7®, house standard) and the Balance Control Priority™
  • Closed loop color control of the calculated inking correction in real time carried out in accordance with all the parameters defined in the standard using special System Brunner Color-/Gray balance algorithm and L*a*b* targets, whereby more than 30 influencing variables are taken into account.
  • Automatic adjustment of the solid tone target densities in accordance with the smallest ∆E to the L*a*b* reference
  • A selection of 5 different Balance Control Priorities™ (gray balance priority, ISO/PSO, G7®, solid balance, GCR)
  • Display of the color/gray balance related control recommendations for every inking zone and printing unit
  • Taking over balance/contrast settings from one page for others
  • Display of solid ink densities, tonal value increase/CMY spread, gray balances, 5-star rating ★★★★★® at a glance in the Hexagon graph
  • Display of the deviations ∆L*, ∆a*b*, TVI to the reference at a glance
  • Balance Navigator®pro for fast, intuitive and repeatable color/tonal value corrections in closed loop mode. Individual corrections can be made in selected image areas or in general over the the entire surface (all ink keys)
  • Display of PSO evaluation as % value for every measurement
  • OK sheet definition and control in every inking zone in accordance with the target values of the OK sheet
  • Editor for defining house standards

Benefits:

efficiency – economy – flexibility - quality

  • Efficient adherence to print standards in day-to-day production
  • Color control always according to the samedefined logic regardless of the press operator
  • After every measurement the printer can see whether the selected standard is within the tolerances or where any significant deviations may be
  • Optimal color stability over the run, better reproducibility of the print results, better visual conformity with the standardized proof
  • Reduced makeready times and materials consumption
  • A link between prepress and the pressroom for better communication
  • Rapid process diagnostics saves time and reduces costs
  • Knowing how the different consumable materials and machine settings influence the print result saves time and reduces costs
  • Quality log (individual measurements and entire run) under development
  • In-depth operator training and optimization guidance by System Brunner experts incl. Print Consult® package: Checking and support regarding process calibration and workflow prepress/press with materials and machine settings for optimal overall performance.

PSO-Match™ 2

with QualiTronic / ErgoTronic 2 control console

PSO-Match 2 focuses on controlling the defined measured variables in accordance with ISO 12647-2/PSO in the printing process, based on System Brunner process technology. While other solid ink density control solutions only control a small part of PSO parameters, PSO-Match also includes solid ink densities with L*a*b* color locus, tone value increase (dot gain) in the mid-tones and mid-tone spread and keeps these in an optimal balance. This control provides the best possible corrections for maintaining the ISO/PSO target values and tolerances, providing that process calibration has been produced for the press and materials combination.

Prerequisites:
• Inline ink density measurement and control (QualiTronic 2 control console)
and/or
• External spectral reference scan device (ErgoTronic 2 control console or Color Drive)

The most important features and functions:

  • Selection of the stored PSO standard or a defined house standard
  • PSO-Match calculates the color correction in every inking zone in accordance with the defined parameters and their weightings, using special System Brunner Balance algorithm
  • Automatic adjustment of the solid tone target densities in accordance with the smallest ∆E to the L*a*b* reference
  • Hexagon graph shows solid ink densities, tone value increase (TVI) /CMY-spread, color balance of individual colors and CMY gray balances at a glance
  • Hexagon graph shows deviation of ∆L*, ∆a*b*, TVI to the reference at a glance
  • Display of PSO evaluation as % value with every ErgoTronic measurement
  • OK sheet definition and control in every inking zone in accordance with the target values of the OK sheet
  • of Display of the color/gray balance related control recommendations for every inking zone and printing unit
  • Editor for defining house standards
  • Balance Navigator®slim: for fast and repeatable color/tonal value corrections in closed loop mode. The corrections can only be made in general over the entire surface
